 Summary:
Finite element method (FEM) has been successfully used for solving a wide range of engineering problems. However, in some cases the application of FEM is impractical or even impossible. Therefore new methods have been invented that do not need a mesh of elements, but rather rely on approximating the field variable by a set of nodal values - Meshfree (M-Free) or Meshless methods. This paper presents a short overview of the concepts and types of M-free methods, bringing engineers' attention to the new possibilities that they provide.
