 Summary:
Contemporary European regulations for the design of reinforced concrete structures are applicable in the European Union as well as in some non EU countries. These regulations, for certain types of construction, comprise a part that relates to fire safety design. In one part of non EU countries, such as Serbia and several other countries of the former Yugoslavia, in force are the old, national regulations for the design of reinforced concrete structures in which there are no requirements in terms of the structural fire design. For these reasons, in this paper, numerical analyzes of the fire resistance of middle storey RC column of a tall building, designed according to the EC2 regulations and (yet) applicable national regulations for concrete and reinforced concrete structures, is presented. Different applied safety factors for materials and loads, as well as the specific design requirements for columns, defined by the former JUS seismic regulations, directly affect the capacity of reinforced concrete columns under fire conditions and these effects are shown in this paper. Standard fire ISO 834, which is commonly used in experiments and for the numerical analyzes, is used in these case. For the fire resistance analysis of the RC columns the specialized software SAFIR was used.
