NUMERICAL SOLUTION OF THE TRANSPORT EQUATION WITH APPLICATION ON GROUNDWATER FLOW

 Summary:
 This paper presents a one-dimensional numerical pollutant transport model. In order to achieve better accuracy the equation was solved using the Holly -Preissmann method for advection, and the Crank-Nicholson scheme for diffusion. The results gained by solving the complete transport equation using the differnt methods were anlysied and compared. After that the equation was modified for one-dimensional pollutant transport in groundwater, where the pollutant is subject to biological/chemical degradation. The model was applied to an example using the ammonium ion NH4+ as the pollutan.
