ULTIMATE LOAD ANALYSIS OF WIDE – FLANGE BEAM THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF THE PRINCIPLE OF VIRTUAL WORK

 Summary:
 This work describes the procedure of ultimate load analysis through the application of the principle of virtual work (basic energy equation), one of the basic principles of mechanics, which has found its wide application in the theorz of plasticity. The method is shown both as gradual and direct method, on wide-flange beam subjected to the influence of concentrated forces. The advantage of gradual method i n relation to direct method is that it enables monitoring of plastic hinge formation due to proportional increase of loading, as well as determination of angles of rotation – rotation of cross – section where the plastic hinges are formed.
