 Summary:
This article belongs to the group of General Design Solutions of the Subotica Railway Junction, within the framework of the project for reconstruction and modernization of the railway infrastructure in the Republic of Serbia on the Corridor X. The article presents a General Design solution for the freight subsystem within the global solution of the Subotica Railway Junction. The foundation for the proposed solution for the freight subsystem of the railway junction represents a successful carriage of freight traffic through the junction and the city area, within the modernization project of the main double-track line E85: Belgrade – Subotica – Serbian state border (Kelebia) – Budapest. The proposed solution presupposes spatial and functional separation between passenger and freight rail traffic within the city perimeter. As the consequence of that, it is expected that a significant land area within the Subotica city center will be freed for other city needs. In the presented variant solution for the junction, main facilities of the freight subsystem are planned in the industrial zone south of the city. This station complex, together with the connecting railway lines, road bypass and main power-lines, simultaneously form the infrastructure corridor south of the city of Subotica. Structure/solution and the technical elements of this intermodal complex, which contains marshalling yard, container terminal, goods station and depot, enable combining of different transport technologies. Well-designed structures and objects, based on modern station complexes in Europe, which enable different types of integrated logistical services, represent a constitutive part of the presented solution.
