Background
History
The story of our faculty began a little more than half a century ago. The story about spreading knowledge, expertise, and perseverance. The story that has developed over time and of which we are all a part today.
On 11 January 1972, a decision was made to appoint an initiative committee to establish the faculty. The preparations lasted for more than two years and finally, on 22 April 1974, the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Subotica was founded. In that first year, the faculty had two departments: construction and hydrotechnical engineering, which enrolled 150 students.

In the beginning, classes took place on the premises of the Workers’ University, Technical College, and the laboratory of the Construction Institute. The search for potential premises took several years, as none of the options were entirely suitable. Finally, on 11 January 1979, the foundation stone for the new building of the Faculty of Civil Engineering was laid, in a beautiful location next to Dudova šuma.
The building was designed by architect Nikola Ilinčić, and the first students took part in its construction, in collaboration with their professors. The project of the faculty building has received numerous awards, deservedly so, since it is an extremely functional building, bright and aesthetically pleasing, with modern classrooms, an amphitheatre, laboratories, a computer cabinet and a library with over 7,000 titles. The faculty building was completed in 1981 and officially opened on 11 June 1982.
Being a part of the University of Novi Sad for 50 years, the Subotica Faculty of Civil Engineering has grown into a modern educational and scientific institution, with classes in Serbian and partly in Hungarian. Study programmes have been systematically expanded, in line with trends in science and the market. Consequently, another two construction departments and a geodesy study programme have been added. The faculty has successful cooperation with other faculties, institutes, and construction companies, but also with local government and the economy.
