 Summary:
 The aim of this paper is to present the practical implementation of performance-based road maintenance contracts through a comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages between this approach and the traditional road maintenance contracting model. On the other hand, author will present key guidelines for proper implementation of performance-based contracts on winter and summer road maintenance, with the aim of reducing maintenance costs and increasing the level of service quality provided by contractors. Furthermore, this paper will outline the experience of the implementation of performance-based road maintenance contracts in developed countries, as well as a review the implementation of this type of contracts in the Republic of Serbia.
