 Summary:
Immensly huge amounts of concrete, produced and p laced world round, demand for huge amounts of concrete aggregates to be used. In consequence, nature is polluted and destroyed by digging gravel and stone pits, etc. Simultaneously, glass containers, fluorescent tubes, glass waste have seldom been exploited. Up to 20% of glass waste can be recycled by the glass industry. Even though, glass is not a naturally degradable substance, huge amounts of this waste are regularly delivered to the wastedumps. This paper puts forward a possibility to tackle the sustainable development problem, on the one hand, and the environmental protection issue, on the other. One option to apply glass waste is that it should be processed into the expanded glass aggregate and then be used to make light weight concrete. The paper presents major physical - mechanical characteristics of the light weight concrete that has been made applying the recycled, expanded glass aggregate.
