FATIGUE ANALYSIS OF STEEL ROAD BRIDGES BY EUROCODE

 Summary:
 The fatigue strength of the characteristic details of road bridges by Eurocode 3 has been analysed in this paper. Verification of fatigue resistance has carried outbytwo different methods, recommended bySRPS EN1993-1-9, the methodof damage equivalent factorandthe damage accumulationmethod.The actioneffects incharacteristic details were calculatedusing load models defined inappropriate standards. Beside of stress range,fatigue effects are defined bystress frequency during designed lifetime of construction. Fatigue verificationbymethod of equivalent damage factor has been performed using the detail categories defined in SRPSEN199-1-9, while fatigue verification according to damage accumulation methodhas beenperformed using the Miner’s accumulationcurve. Comparisonofresults obtained bythese two methods has beenpressented at the end of the paper,using theconcept ofequivalent stress.
