 Summary:
The discharge measurements on stream gauging stations are the basis for stage-discharge curves determination. As such, they have a key role on subsequent hydrological, hydarulical and water resources analyses. Uncertainties inherent in the stream gauging are the result of multiple causes – the type of current meter, the gauging method its parameters and application and finaly in discharge calculations. Тhe paper addressses the uncertainty in general and particulary in gauging the stream discharge by the velocity-area method. Definitions and relations for assesing the uncertainty are given according to the ISO standards and in the scope of discharge by the WMO recommenadations. Presented case study use the data from gauging stations Bajina Bašta (the Drina river), Sremska Mitrovica (the Sava river) and Prijepolje (the Lim river).
